The June–July Cerrado Belt: Emas, Jalapão and Veadeiros

Jalapão: The Return Route Is Part of the Session

The sky score is high because the dunes sector is remote, dry and open. The access score stays at 50 because the approach runs through long unpaved roads and controlled attractions. Fuel range, 4×4 capability, legal stopping and the drive back to Mateiros must be settled before sunset.

Veadeiros: Choose the Horizon Around Brasília

Chapada dos Veadeiros gains elevation and a dry winter window, yet it is not uniformly free of settlement glow. The planning question is directional: keep Brasília and the nearest town dome away from the target horizon, then verify that the chosen rural property permits a full-night setup.

Caatinga and Chapada Geometry: Serra da Capivara vs Mucugê

Serra da Capivara’s Canyon Trade

Plateau edges can frame the Milky Way with sandstone walls, but the same walls remove low sky from a canyon floor. Archaeological-site protection also makes a dark-looking circuit different from an authorized night observing site. Coordination with the park or an approved local operator is part of the location decision.

Mucugê’s Ridge Choice

Mucugê’s highlands support cooler nights and quieter rural ground than Lençóis, but the park’s many entrances and absence of internal visitor structures create a land-management puzzle. A ridge-facing property can score well for horizon; a narrow valley near the same town cannot.

Desengano Is Brazil’s Atlantic Forest Exception

Desengano’s 21.75 mag/arcsec² published average, International Dark Sky Park status and 24-hour access rule make it the strongest verified darkness-and-access package here. Its second-place overall result reflects a different weakness: humid air, forest edges and mountain valleys can reduce transparency and low-horizon reach. The Morumbeca dos Marreiros sector is the practical motor-access choice named by the designation profile.

Pico dos Dias Is an Event-Based Observatory Visit

The observatory’s 1,864 m elevation and telescope infrastructure raise its horizon and astronomy-support scores. Access receives 25 because public entry is tied to scheduled LNA events, invitations and compound rules. Independent observers should not treat the observatory road or gate as an open all-night viewpoint.
